What the app collects
Nothing, on our end — because there is no “our end.” Everything you record (GPS routes, photos, videos, voice notes and their transcriptions, written notes, stops, companions, trips) is created by you and stored in the app’s own storage on your iPhone.
Where your data lives
- On your device — the app’s primary storage. You can back it up or export it from Settings at any time.
- In your private iCloud — if you turn on iCloud sync, data syncs between your devices through your personal iCloud account, under Apple’s privacy protections. It is not readable by the developer.
- With people you choose — if you share a trip, it goes to the specific people you invite via iCloud sharing, with the permission level you pick. Sharing a recap card, journal or flyby video sends only what you see in the preview.
Permissions the app asks for
Each permission is used only for the feature it names, only while you use it: Location (to record your route, including in the background during a recording), Camera & Microphone (photos, videos, voice notes), Photos (importing and saving media), Speech recognition (on-device transcription of voice notes), Contacts (picking companions — nothing is uploaded), Health (importing your own Watch workouts, read-only), Music (noting what was playing), Motion (step counts), and Notifications (reminders you configure).
Third parties
The app fetches weather for a recorded activity from Open-Meteo, a free weather service, using an approximate route location — no identity, no account, nothing else attached. Maps are provided by Apple Maps under Apple’s privacy policy. That’s the entire list: no ad networks, no analytics SDKs, no trackers.
Your control
Delete anything, anytime, in the app — activities, media, trips, or everything. Turning off iCloud sync stops syncing; deleting the app’s iCloud data removes it from your iCloud. Backups you export are files you own. There is no account to close, because there was never an account.
Children
MyTripKeeper is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.
